Blounts Commercial Interiors recently completed an acoustic improvement project at a local school, helping to reduce excessive noise and improve sound quality within one of its dining halls.
We were approached by a reputable architect to investigate concerns about high noise levels and excessive reverberation within the space. Our team attended the school to carry out an initial assessment and take sound readings, which confirmed that noise levels were particularly high and that reverberation was affecting the clarity of sound throughout the room.
A practical solution to reduce noise and reverberation
Following our assessment, we recommended the installation of 40mm direct-fix acoustic panels to help absorb sound and reduce reverberation within the dining hall.
The dining hall consists of six main seating bays, and it was agreed that we would initially install acoustic panels in three of these bays as a trial. This approach would allow the school to assess the effectiveness of the panels before considering any further improvements to the remaining areas.
The panels were supplied in a white finish, providing an effective acoustic solution while maintaining a clean, bright appearance that complements the existing dining hall.
A significant improvement in sound levels
Following the installation, our team returned to take additional sound readings and assess the performance of the acoustic panels.
The initial results demonstrated a significant reduction in sound levels, with a noticeable improvement in reverberation within the treated areas.
Further readings are planned once the students have returned to school, allowing us to assess the acoustic performance of the dining hall during normal use.
